ZEN EMBODIED
30 Day Meditation Training week 1 - FOUNDATION
The breath awareness, the body scanning, the methods of stilling your mind and making the present moment attractive are not meditation- they are the important beginning steps that eventually lead to the meditative state.
Before you are effortlessly riding your bike in the wind, you fall and struggle finding your balance.
This first week we go over all the foundations of meditation:
we learn about the history, goal and essence of different schools of meditation.
we learn different methods of initiating meditation practice and how to teach them (includes breath work, somatic movement, and traditional yogic and buddhist techniques)
We distinguish which methods of initiating meditation are best for beginners vs experienced practitioners
the training’s structure:
WEEK 2- TROUBLESHOOTING
There’s no greater moment after teaching than hearing “thats exactly what i needed to hear, it’s like you were in my head”. My job as a teacher is to show you that your success is intertwined with what you believe your failure is. If your mind is so loud and active, if your mind is so tired and dull, if your mind is so proud or so discouraging - that you either quit, get further from ‘the point’ or theres a different medicine for each of these problems that will actually support you in mastering another part of your mind. If you are a teacher or practitioner- knowing how to make peace with the obstacles in the practice and resolve them is essential in continuing growth and joy. As you can see- this all starts translating into your daily waking life.
this week we troubleshoot:
common obstacles that arise during our practice that make us want to quit or resistant
How to support the mind, body, and energy to sit for longer periods of time
Common misinterpretations on what meditation is and it’s goal
If you are sitting for an hour thinking about ‘meditating’ - that is not meditating
Space for Q&A on what shows up for you
week 3- ACTIVE MEDITATION
The fruits of meditation are: the insights, ability to distinguish the ‘thinking mind’ and the cultivation of a focused present mind. But this becomes fruitless if we fail to integrate these jewels into everyday waking life. A common issue we find in our practice or with those we share it with - is this start and stop issue. Thinking that sitting down and closing your eyes starts meditation and opening your eyes and getting up ends it. Instead, the practice is where we train the state of mind we aim to continue and utilize 24/7 ( yes, even while sleeping and dreaming).
This week we discuss and practice:
how to take the practice into everyday life
Practices that require focus while moving
How to ‘wake up’ and ground again during real life movement and challenges
How to prevent meditation practice from becoming an escape
week 4- POWER AND SERVICE
If you haven’t heard any of the epic stories about monks, nuns, mystics, yogis & lay practitioners who have come across great special powers and supernatural experiences- this week ill tell you all about it (my stories included). Yes this makes meditation and these lineages very interesting and enticing - but here’s a reminder that being able to drop addictions, reflect before acting on impulses, tap into deep compassion, and feel centered and strong are just as valuable as the visions and abilities that also come from meditation. Bringing our practice out into the world allows us to feel a humble empowerment that benefits our relations and interaction with the world. Just look at the impact the buddha, christ, osho, amma, rosa parks, thich nat han, and so many other peaceful warriors have had on the world.
This week we go deep into:
the heart of karma yoga
Acknowledging our unique gift and voice- and sharing it for the benefit of the world
Practices to cultivate and harness power & strength (in mind, body, and spirit)
Learning to protect our power
DEEPEN YOUR PRACTICE
